I’ve been a fan of Ike Sturm’s music since I first heard his Spirit album back in 2004. I was instantly blown away by his unique bass concept and his melodic compositions. Since then we’ve had a chance to play countless gigs together and forge a strong musical relationship. We’ve recorded as sidemen on several recordings, but this is the first album of Ike’s that I’ve been a part of. I’m thrilled with the way this recording sounds; the playing is fantastic and Mark Conese at Ambient Recording Studios masterfully captured the sounds. The band, “Evergreen,” consists of a group of close friends and musical collaborators. Fabian Almazan on piano, Chris Dingman on vibes, and myself, create a beautiful wash of textures along with drummer Jared Schoning and saxophonist Loren Stillman. Vocalists Misty Ann Sturm, Chanda Rule, and Melissa Stylianou take turns singing melodies and add gorgeous harmonies throughout. I got to use my Froggy Bottom parlor acoustic guitar on the song “Family.” It’s probably the best acoustic guitar sound I’ve ever gotten on a recording.
